Wirra Wirra Declares War on Ata Rangi

A bunch of McLaren Vale yokels have thrown down a win-or-lose challenge to Martinborough's Ata Rangi.

On 26 April, the Aussies cross the ditch in an audacious move to assert some form of wine-making dominance downunder. The event is being held at the prestigious Peppers Parehua's Pavilion Restaurant, with accommodation for the night at the resort. It'll be no small task for the Ockers to win on Kiwi home turf.

Acclaimed wine critic and pretty decent chap Nick Stock will host the event, ensuring that a modicum of civility and a touch of Queensbury Rules apply between winemakers - who will face off amid a sumptuous 5-course degustation menu and signature wines from both parties.

It is understood that both Wirra Wirra and Ata Rangi have already commenced the intense training required for war-readiness. Ata Rangi Winemaker Helen Masters, donning her boxing gloves at the start of Vintage today, stated: "If your name is Wirra, and you have to say it again for people to get it, you're probably on the back foot already."

Wirra Wirra were unavailable at the time of Ata Rangi's press release, but are understood to be looking up 'is NZ wine better than Australian?' on Google.

Around 2000 entrants enjoy anything from a stroll to a half-marathon run, stopping here and there to samples wines and taste from baskets of grapes and watermelons. The camaradarie is legendary, and many liven up the day with creative costumes and crazy fancy dress.
