Summer Rosé

 Summer Rose 2008
Very pretty wine with the delicate and haunting scent of crushed wild strawberries. It's deliciously soft and slightly sweet but nicely balanced with an ethereal texture. Just the thing for a summer lunch.
Bob's Wine Reviews, Dec 08

Summer Rose 2004
Bright, cerise licked pink. Fragrant, fruit and herbs bouquet has a gentle quality. Soft, clean impact has great clarity and a firm touch, introducing a mid palate with plenty of flavour and excellent weight. Herbs emerge on the finish, which is dry and clean, lingering nicely. Quite elegant wine, with flavour and firmness adding to its sense of honesty.

For a wine that is inherently frivolous rosé seems damnably difficult to get right. This is an excellent example of what happens when you do. Pale pink, fresh and full of berry fruit. Summer in a glass. Buy a case and drink it all summer.
Don Higgins, NZ House & Garden, Dec 02

One of the best of New Zealand Rosé wines is the delicious 2002 Ata Rangi Summer Rosé which is a wild berry-fruit tasting wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Meunier. Although it's not bone dry, this wine is beautifully balanced by zesty fruit flavours.

Ata Rangi Summer Rosé 2002.
With its bright, fruity hints of red-currants, soft texture and crisp, refreshing finish, this rosé is ideal for summer lunches, picnics and barbecues. Serve chilled.

Kahu Botrytis Riesling

Kahu Botrytis Riesling 2009
A stylish, full-on sticky, oozing dried apricots, tropical fruit, honey, mandarin and a hint of new leather, a silky texture and a crisp, clean, well-balanced finish.
A classic that will develop with a little more bottle age.
4 stars (out of 5) - Good Value

Kahu Botrytis Riesling 2005
Kahu is the Maori for Harrier Hawk, and it inspired the name of a vineyard neighbouring the Ata Rangi property from which the grapes to make this wine are grown. An expansive nose: dried pears and dried apricots, orange peel, candied ruby grapefuit, a bit of matchstick, some smoke. The palate is big and big and luscious, orange marmalade, clean dried pears, almost honeyed, silky smooth with some green plum freshness and acidity. The length is terrific, full flavoured, and it finishes with a bit of residual sugar. Apparently there is around 130 g/l residual sugar, but I think it maintains some balance and poise - a terrific wine.

Ata Rangi 2005 Kahu Botrytis Riesling - 4 stars.
From Martinborough, this wine is fragrant with hints of pepper and herbs, intensely sweet with wonderful flavours suggesting dried apricots and prunes, toasted nuts and golden syrup. It ahs a velvety texture, a stylish finish and a long aftertaste.

Ata Rangi 2004 Kahu Botrytis Riesling
Oozing lush, tropical fruit with dried mango, dried peach and apricot with a hint of spice, this wine had a seamless charm, a beautiful balance and lovely clean finish. Like the best botrytised wines, it is capable of developing over several years. Delicious.

'Ata Rangi 2002 Kahu Botrytis Riesling
**** 4 stars

Lemon-honey nose with tight yet lush palate. Fine wine with strong limey Riesling characters flattered by pure botrytis flavours.'

Ata Rangi Kahu Botrytis Riesling****1/2stars.
Only nine per cent alcohol, with a high (160 grams/litre) level of residual sugar, it's a light and lovely wine with rich, concentrated flavours of honey, lemon and apricots, sweet and crisp. It's still a baby; open 2004.'
